Renfrew BJJ

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a combat sport and a self defense system that focuses primarily on grappling and ground fighting. BJJ teaches that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger opponent by using leverage and proper technique.

Renfrew Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a proud affiliate of Therien/Gringo Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu; one of the top competition teams in Ontario.  Our affiliation with Therien/Gringo is like a big family.  The team regularly travels to Orleans to train with the other affiliations.  Established in 2015, the club is growing every year, with members regularly competing in many provincial BJJ tournaments.

Most of our members are recreational students of BJJ; joining to learn self-defence, gain confidence, improve fitness, relieve stress, or lose weight.  As all the members can attest to, BJJ quickly becomes a lifestyle.

Class Structure

Classes are structured with a functional warm-up, drills and techniques, positional sparring, and live sparring(rolling).  Techniques are taught in a sequence (chaining) with a quick review of the previous lesson and new techniques are built on previous lessons.  Positional sparring allows the beginner to practice the basics, while giving advanced students opportunity to hone and develop their own style.  This allows the students of all levels opportunities to perform multiple repetitions, aiding in retention.

Membership

New members are welcome anytime.  The best time to start BJJ is today!  Members are required to join the Ontario Jiu-Jitsu Association.
