Our program is taught by Jason Smith, Brown Belt in BJJ, 3rd degree Black Belt in Can-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu, and CBET A and B certified wrestling coach. Jason received his Brown Belt belt from his instructor Professor Ely Camejo in September 2023. Jason has been training under Professor Ely since 2010.
I started teaching classes in Renfrew because many people don’t have the time or the resources to travel to Ottawa. I love this art and I want to bring it to as many people as possible.
“My philosophy regarding Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is simple; BJJ is for everyone, big, small, tall, short, young, old, male and female. Once you master the basics; then your style will begin to develop. Everyone’s Jiu-jitsu is fundamentally the same, but each person develops their own style. The basics are the foundation you build from. BJJ is the ultimate thinking person’s art. If you like to solve problems, you need to check it out.”
Regarding the art
“BJJ is the most humbling, ego-smashing, addiction I have ever participated in. It constantly forces you to evolve and develop problem solving skills, as well as teaching you how to be comfortable being uncomfortable. In life, many times we get the lesson, then we get the test. Many times in BJJ you get the test, then you get the lesson.”
